TONG YUAN!

So Tong Yuan is a Chinese dessert that has really been in every phase of my life. A little obsession of mine. In Hong Kong I would just crave for it and look for it in the dessert shops. On my Study aboard in China I had it every Sunday since I discovered that they sold ready made tong yuan packets. In Utah I would just dream about it. In California I would wait hoping that my n-laws would make their home made pressure cooker red bean soup along with store bought tong yuans for dessert on Sundays.

Finally I decided this week that no longer do I need to wait ! So I decided to DIY TONG YUANS myself! It was actually super super easy. Add 5 ounces of water gradually to 1 cup of glutenous rice flour untill you form a play dough like texture! It's actually really fun! It feels very different to any other dough. This time I added peanut butter in it. I'm not sure if it was exactly how I wanted it but not bad. For the soup I added ginger and brown sugar.

So this is definitely not for everyone. I remember when I first shared this love of tong yuan to my 8th graders that I was teaching they looked at me in disgust. Like what! I can't believe you eat that! I was crushed. How could they not share my passion? I mean doesn't it look delicious :P

four months

Kiera is starting to become more like a baby baby. She is starting to decide what she likes or doesn’t like. She doesn’t like formula! She knows how to struggle and try to get out of her not so favorite car seat and bouncer. She also likes to yell/talk and cry a little before she finally falls asleep in her own bed for nap time. She loves to laugh and is now enjoying the peek a boo game. Her spits are still ongoing and she has started to drool like crazy. :D She loves to be entertained and loves looking at people. She enjoys her bath and seems to get excited when I put new cloths on her. She likes to hold her hands together to sooth herself to sleep. She can grab lots of things now! Including my hair! Recently she has been more fussy then ever before.. we aren’t sure if it’s cause of her lump that has formed from her injection or if some teeth might be starting to annoy her gums ( cause she is very young to be teething). Besides the last two nights she has been sleeping ALL NIGHT LONG for a couple of weeks now so it’s been very good. Hopefully the last two nights were just a phase... or else I might have to introduce some rice cereal in her diet!

So what has been exciting in my life? I have recently tried running along the beach and it’s sooo fuN! I officially weigh less than I have ever been in the USA ( since 2005) ! Gotta love breast feeding and my gym. I have made two pot holders,, gosh they were not easy for some reason. I kept breaking needles.. until I realized that I wasn’t using the right thickness of needles!! GO figure! These are really ugly up close! I DID soo many mistakes..oh well. All part of the learning process and it was still fun! We have also recently purchased a dishwasher! Our other one failed. But the dishwasher guy gave us some great insight! THEY SAID IT”S WORSE for your dish washer and dishes to wash them before you put it into your dish washer. You should only scrub the food off. One other thing that is pretty exciting is that WE GOT A BLENDER! I know that might not be too exciting for you but I’m pretty excited about it :D . I still love cooking and watching American idol. I’m trying to finish reading kite runner. I have also FINALLY been able to stick to my goal, pretty consistently, to read a page of the Book of Mormon in Chinese before bed time and I have been speaking Chinese to Kiera more. Something not so exciting.. I went to the dentist (and to people who just gave birth GO CHECK your teeth cause) I got soo many cavities from loosing all my calcium and other nutrients from giving birth and breastfeeding ( also maybe a sudden increase intake of dessert :P ) . I was so shocked cause I don’t remember the last time I have had cavities.
